The museum opened on 13 June 1971 as the Ethnography and Archaeology Museum. Most of what is shown comes from the prehistoric period, with works of the ancient Greek, Byzantine and Roman periods as well.
Besides a valuable coin collection, the statues and fragments of statues, the sets, and the vessels of clay and glass are among the pieces that draw attention. It is within walking distance in the city centre.
