Adramytteion lies at Karataş, about two kilometres west of Burhaniye in Balıkesir province, over a wide area taking in Ören Tepe, on the shore of the gulf between the Havran and Karınca streams, with the Madra mountains to the east and Ida — Kaz Dağı — to the north. One thing to expect: the remains of the city are spread through the modern Ören quarter rather than standing in a single enclosure.
Archaeological work here has found a well-preserved ancient harbour, storage buildings commanding that harbour, Byzantine-period houses, objects of daily use, church remains, a pottery kiln and Late Antique graves. A considerable number of coins struck in the city's name have also survived.
