The Kadınana tombs in Afyonkarahisar belong to the daughters of the Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubad III, who settled in Afyon and worked for its people; the Ministry names three — Asiye, Melek Peyker and Naime Gevher — but speaks of two tombs, and the discrepancy is left as it stands. The first tomb was built for Asiye Hatun: a square, single-domed building repaired in 1940, with an arched door facing east and a single cenotaph inside. It is on Kadınana Caddesi, and Asiye Hatun is remembered for having had a great many graves made for the townspeople.
The second, a masonry building under a hipped roof near the Mevlevi Mosque, holds Melek Peyker, who put her knowledge and her means into bringing the city's open water supply along a channel, and Naime Gevher, who did the same for the city's drains and bridges — so what these women are remembered for is public works rather than piety alone.
