The lighthouse at Marmaraereğlisi was established on 1 January 1861 on the headland at the southern end of Ereğli bay. It stands 52 metres above the sea with a tower height of 26 metres, and its light, on a metal tower, is visible from sixteen miles. It is a revolving light, electric and battery-powered, with a 50-watt lamp, and both the lighthouse and the keeper's house are protected as national heritage by the General Directorate of Coastal Safety.
A narrow dirt road out of Marmaraereğlisi brings you there quickly, and you can walk around the open ground outside the wire fence enclosing the lighthouse and the keeper's house to reach either side of the headland. Going round on the seaward side you come upon an ancient cave left from the city of Perinthos; going round behind the lighthouse you get a view from above of the fishing harbour and of Marmaraereğlisi itself.
