Maslak Kasrı stands on 170 hectares on Büyükdere Caddesi, where the İstinye and Tarabya junctions meet, in the Maslak quarter of İstanbul from which it takes its name. After restoration in 1984 it opened as a museum under the National Palaces administration.
Building on the ground began in the reign of Mahmud II, but the form in which the lodges survive is largely the work of Abdülaziz in the 1860s. Abdülhamid II spent his years as a prince here with his family and, buying up the surrounding land, turned the place into a farm; it was here that he received the news that Murad V had been deposed and that he was the new sovereign. During his reign the farm was known as the Imperial Farms of Maslak.
The lodge falls into five parts — the Kasr-ı Hümayun, the Mabeyn-i Hümayun, the Pasha's apartment, the tent pavilion and the orangery — and is built on the plan type of the traditional Turkish house.
