The mosque Bayezid II had built in the name of his mother Gülbahar Hatun appears in the records as the Hatuniye Mosque, though in Tokat it is known as the Meydan Mosque after the square it stands on. It was built in 1485 in the Meydan quarter and is among the finest Ottoman buildings in the town.
It is built of cut stone, with a single minaret over the main space and a porch of five domes carried on six columns. The two things to look at are the marble portal, worked with muqarnas in the Seljuk manner, and the wooden door leaves made in the kundekari technique — both of them, in the provincial directorate's judgement, masterpieces. The mosque is in the town centre and served by local buses.
