The Nihat Bey monument stands on the street of the same name in the Sultan Selim quarter of Giresun, and it was put up in 1914 when the street was named after him. Nihat Bey was a major and head of the local military recruitment office at the time, and the monument was raised to mark the naming. It was registered as a protected property by decision of 14 February 1986.
It is built of cut basalt and reads as a series of stacked forms: a square step of a single course of cut stone at the bottom, then a square cubic base of three courses, then a cubic inscription block, then a pyramidal body, and at the top a round finial in the form of a ball. The inscription itself is rectangular, written in thuluth script on white marble, set within an oval cartouche formed by a garland motif, with crescent and star motifs at the corners. It is in the town centre and easy to reach on foot or by car.
