Resumen

La torre-mausoleo de Şeyh Abdurrahman Baba se alza al noreste del castillo de Van, a unos tres kilómetros del centro de la ciudad, y es un importante lugar de visita. Se cree que Şeyh Abdurrahman Baba llegó de Bagdad a Van en el siglo XV y desarrolló una labor religiosa en la región, y que a su muerte fue enterrado en este mausoleo levantado al noreste del castillo. Con el tiempo el terreno que lo rodea se convirtió en un cementerio histórico, y tanto el mausoleo como el cementerio siguen siendo muy visitados.

El mausoleo tiene planta octogonal, está construido con piedra de Ahlat parda y tallada (toba andesítica) y se cubre con un remate piramidal. La Dirección Regional de Fundaciones de Bitlis lo sometió a una reparación a fondo en 1982-83, y durante esa obra se añadió en su lado oriental un pequeño mescit cuadrado con cúpula. Para llegar al mausoleo y al cementerio hay que seguir la carretera hacia el castillo de Van.
