The mosque on Atatürk Meydanı in Bahçe, Osmaniye, carries an inscription recording that it was rebuilt in 1809 by a man named Ağcabey. The masonry parts of what was, until recently, a half-timbered building have been argued to date from the time of Alauddevle of the Dulkadirids, around 1489-90, and the imposing minaret does suggest an earlier origin.
Know what stands there now: the regional directorate of foundations in Adana had the mosque itself demolished completely and rebuilt to a project true to the original, leaving only the minaret, and it is open for prayer. Outside the town, near the station, are two tombs in a cemetery, one of Ağcabey and the other of his family; both are square in plan, open at the sides and domed. Bahçe is about thirty kilometres from Osmaniye and can be reached by road or rail.
