The clock tower stands in the middle of Bilecik, on the old Silk Road, and it was put up in 1907 for a practical reason: to show travellers passing along that route the time. A dial faces each of its four sides.
The tower is built of stone with a timber body and finished with a conical cap. The provincial administration dates it to the reign of Abdülhamid II and counts it among Bilecik's historic sites, together with Belekoma Castle, left from Byzantine times, and the Köprülü Mehmet Paşa caravanserai.
