The valley lies on the skirts of Cilo, about 45 kilometres from the centre of Hakkari and at some 3,500 metres, and its name comes from what it holds side by side: permanent glaciers in one part, and in another wide ground covered with flowers depending on the season.
Being able to see such different climatic conditions at the same time is what makes the area matter for nature tourism, and walkers, mountaineers and rock climbers use it.

- Across Hakkari as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from -4.4 °C in January to 24.8 °C in August; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in June, July, August and September; rainfall is heaviest in April (126 mm) and lightest in August (5 mm). Long-term means for 1961-2025 from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).
