Guide
Mergabüt ski area lies 12 km from the centre of Hakkâri at 2,700 m, on the north-facing side of the province. It has a 900 m surface lift (teleski) and a three-storey mountain lodge, and operates until the end of April. Snow in Hakkâri's mountains can reach about four metres deep in winter, and the provincial directorate counts Hakkâri among the provinces that open the ski season earliest and close it last.
For ski touring the main routes are the Bercelan plateau (2,800–3,700 m), the Cennet-Cehennem valley (2,600–3,400 m), the Cilo Sat lakes (2,500–3,300 m) and Bay village (2,200–2,900 m). There are also courses suited to horse-drawn sleighs.
