Ekinözü owed its reputation to a road. In Seljuk and Ottoman times the caravan route linking Erzurum, Sivas, Gürün, Darende and Elbistan ran through here, and hans were built in the district for travellers to rest and lodge in. It was that traffic, the provincial directorate says, that carried word of the springs to the surrounding provinces.
There are three of them — Yukarı İçme, Orta İçme and Aşağı İçme — and at the middle one it is also possible to take mud baths.
The directorate describes the water as rich in natural minerals, and reports, as something related rather than established, that it helps with a number of complaints. It gives no analysis, no figures and no medical source, so nothing more can be said here about what the water does.
