The İzmir Touchable Barrier-Free Museum of Modern Art was set up by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality within the Örnekköy Social Projects Campus, and its purpose is access: to culture and art, for blind and deaf people above all but for everyone in the city.
What is displayed are not original paintings but ceramic relief replicas, faithful to the originals and made by the artists of the İdol Art House, of works by well-known painters from the various movements of the modern period. Because they are reliefs they can be touched. A QR-code system adds audio description for blind visitors and sign-language commentary for deaf visitors.
The museum is open on weekdays. It stands in Örnekköy, at No: 379/A on Baş Pehlivan Karaali Caddesi, in the Zübeyde Hanım neighbourhood.
