Guide
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, a rudimentary museum of standing stones existed at Kahramanmaraş Castle in the time of the Dulkadir principality. The first museum proper was founded in 1947, in the republican period, and in 1961 the museum was transferred to its building in the castle.
The works held here belong to the Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods.
They are displayed in seven separate halls: the skeleton of an Anatolian elephant, the Direkli excavations, the Domuztepe excavations, Hittite material, mosaics, stone tools, and chronological archaeology.
