This canyon is reached by boat: from Kumlutarla village, in the Baskil district of Elazığ, the way in is over the water. The village is three kilometres from the canyon and is reached from Elazığ by road.
What makes it worth the trip is what nests there: black storks, of which, by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's estimate, 10,000 to 15,000 pairs remain in the world. The canyon lies on the Euphrates, within the bounds of the village.

- Across Elazığ as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from -0.7 °C in January to 27.2 °C in July; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in May, June and September; rainfall is heaviest in April (63 mm) and lightest in August (2 mm). Long-term means for 1938-2025 from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).
