The museum on Barbaros Street is an old Turkish house, arranged by the Hungarian government in memory of Francis II Rákóczi, prince of Transylvania and a hero of the Hungarian struggle for independence, who lived from 1676 to 1735 and spent his last years in Tekirdağ. The building and the personal effects inside it belong to the Hungarian state, and it opened to visitors on 25 September 1982.

What is shown falls into two groups: pieces that stand for Turkish-Hungarian relations and for what the two nations share in their folk arts, and objects belonging to Rákóczi himself and his family.
