The Yalova City Museum opened in 2013, when the Yalova government building was turned into a museum under a reconstruction project carried out jointly by the provincial governorship and the municipality. It stands at the water's edge beside Yalova harbour, where Rıhtım, Cumhuriyet and Gazi Paşa streets meet.
The museum has two floors, a lower and an entrance floor; the upper floor is used for official celebrations and as an exhibition space.
The displays run from the traces of the first settlement, eight thousand years ago, through the Ottoman and republican periods to Yalova as it is today, told with information, documents and photographs, and covering local government, twin towns, population, education, sport, industry, agriculture, geography, the districts, tourism and social life. There is a model of the city, and models of the Walking Mansion and of a mosque. Ethnographic works and documents acquired by donation are also displayed on stands.
