The Şemaki House Museum at Yenişehir in Bursa was built in the eighteenth century by the Şemaki family, who came to Anatolia from the town of Shamakhi in Iran and settled at Yenişehir.
The house, large enough to be called a mansion, has two storeys. The ground floor holds a stone-paved hall with the kitchen and larder to its right and two rooms to its left. A wooden stair against the kitchen wall leads to the upper floor, where there is a hall with an iwan, a principal room opening onto it, and two further rooms, one small and one large.
The rich painted decoration seen in these rooms was made in the nineteenth century. The house, an example of Ottoman domestic architecture, has been opened to the public as a museum.
