The house where Yörük Ali Efe, one of the irregular commanders of the War of Independence, lived from his return from İzmir until his death is in Yenipazar, a district town of Aydın. The building visitors see is a reconstruction: the original burned down completely in a fire in the 1980s. In 1995 the provincial governor's office proposed turning the site into a house museum, and Yörük Ali Efe's heirs donated the house to the Ministry of Culture on condition that it become one. After restoration true to the original and work on the garden, it opened as a museum in 2001.
The display centres on Yörük Ali Efe's personal belongings, given to the museum by his heirs. The other ethnographic material shown alongside them came from three sources: transfers from the collections of the Aydın Archaeological Museum, purchases on the market, and donations by members of the public. His grave is in the museum garden, moved here from the Yenipazar town cemetery by government decree. Municipal buses and Yenipazar minibuses run from central Aydın.
