Five giant swords make up the tower that stands on the ring road in the centre of İğdır, and under them is an enclosed museum hall. At 43.5 metres it is described by the provincial governorate as among the tallest monuments in Türkiye, and the governorate calls it the most important symbol of the city.
It opened in 1999. What it commemorates, in the words of the governorate, is the memory of those subjected to the Armenian atrocities in the region between 1915 and 1920, and it was built as a mark of respect to them.
