The salt caves at Tuzluca, in İğdır province, run into Tuz Dağı, and the rock salt beds in them are thought to have formed between 24 and 37 million years ago. Inside are many galleries resembling rooms, and the temperature holds at twelve degrees in every season.
The caves are known to have been used for salt by the states that ruled this region through history, and they are still worked: about sixty tonnes of salt a day is produced here. In 2021 a salt therapy centre opened in them, bringing the caves into health tourism as well. They are in the town of Tuzluca.
