The two-storey building on Atatürk Caddesi in Konya was put up in 1912, and on 19 July 1928 the people of Konya registered it in Atatürk's name as an expression of their gratitude; the deed carries a note recording it as the gift of the people of Konya to President Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha.
It served as the governor's residence from 1940 to 1963 and opened on 17 December 1964 as the Atatürk House and Culture Museum. It was restored and redisplayed for the centenary of Atatürk's birth at the request of the provincial celebration committee, and its last major repair was carried out between 2001 and 2003.
The arrangement deliberately keeps the feel of a house. Atatürk's personal belongings are shown in cases, while panels set out, with photographs and documents, the part Konya and its people played in the War of Independence.
