The old houses of Ayaş stand in an organic fabric around the bazaar on the valley floor and up the valley slopes to the north, and they carry the typical features of the traditional Turkish house.
They are generally two storeys, half masonry and half timber. The ground floor holds the stable and the larder, and in the larger houses a servant's room. The real living space is upstairs: two or three rooms set around a hall, along with a kitchen and a bathroom and lavatory. From outside, what you see are projections of various kinds in the form of balconies, and windows with wooden lattices. Ayaş is reached by public transport.
