Hamamönü, a historic quarter in the Altındağ district of Ankara, takes its name from the double bath built by Karacabey, a lord of the Bayındır branch of the Oğuz Turks. The bath still stands in the quarter, and the neighbourhood that grew up around it is the reason most visitors come: its nineteenth-century timber houses have been restored, and the streets are lined with Ottoman-era konaks including the Kamil Paşa, Beynamlızade and Kabakçı mansions.
Within a few minutes' walk of the bath are the Taceddin Sultan, Hacı İlyas, Hacı Musa, Sarıkadı and Mehmet Çelebi mosques, and the park named for Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who wrote the Turkish national anthem here; his house is now a museum in the park. The provincial governor's office publishes no opening hours or admission charge for the bath.
