Çengilli Church stands in Çengilli village, within the central district of Muş. It is also known as Çanlı Surp Garabet.
The building did not begin as a church. In antiquity it served as a fire temple, and it was given over to Christian worship in 399 CE under the Sassanids, who held the region after the Romans.
Villagers call it Beyaz, the white church, after the stone it is built from.
