Guide
Ekşisu, 11 km from the centre of Erzincan, is the local name for the Böğert mineral water, and the provincial directorate lists it as good for anaemia and for liver, stomach, intestinal and bile-duct complaints. Close to the Ekşisu spring, another water wells up out of a large trough at a rate measured at a tonne a minute. Rich in sulphur and carrying sodium, magnesium and calcium bicarbonate, it is rated by the directorate as more effective still, for digestive upsets, diabetes, children's poor appetite, liver and bile-duct disorders and skin diseases.
The spa next to Ekşisu has water at 33 °C, used for bathing in indoor pools; the directorate lists it for skin conditions, rheumatism, hardening of the arteries and heart complaints. A soak in the natural 'jacuzzi' at Ekşisu is among the outings the directorate suggests to visitors to the province.
