The museum is in the Sarıkadı mansion, a historic Çankırı house in the Karataş quarter. Its holdings are the radio collection donated by Ferit Akalın, an inventor from Çankırı, together with oral history recordings, documentary footage and material gathered from national archives over the years.
Akalın's own experiences are part of what is recorded here: his interest in radio, his setting up the first television aerials in Çankırı, and his driving a vehicle in the stadium by remote control using radio signals.
The aim of the museum is to tell the history of communication through people's stories, at a time when the means of communication change quickly. Its theme takes as its centre the archive records, stories and documents that are particular to Çankırı.
The collection and the way it is arranged are built largely on interactive work, so that a visitor experiences the display and something like a working studio at once. In a museum whose subject is communication, visitors can also be its users: they can broadcast on the radio, write a letter, send a postcard and try out a good many other media.
