The mosque stands in the Gökmeydan quarter of central Bitlis. Its own inscription gives the year 1801, and the inscription on the minaret the year 1924, when the mosque was restored by Kâzım Dirik Paşa, governor of Bitlis, on the orders of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk; his name was worked into the Ottoman Turkish inscription.
The mosque has several monumental doorways under pointed arches. On the outer face turned toward the qibla there is carefully worked architectural ornament.
The minaret is decorated with work of very high quality, its ornament made up of geometric motifs, small rosettes and torus mouldings.
The mosque is open to visitors at all times outside the hours of prayer.
