The Âb-ı Hayat collection, held within the Adell fittings and valves company, was renamed the İstanbul Water Museum in January 2021 under a museum licence granted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The museum stands in Başakşehir and displays close to 1,500 works of the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods concerning water and the culture of water in İstanbul, over about 1,000 square metres under roof. It is a member of the UNESCO World Water Museums network, Wamu-Net, and its collection places it among a small number of museums of its kind in the world.
The museum describes itself as a sustainable social responsibility project, setting out to present the culture of water and of the bath as it has come down to the present, to bring to light values that have nearly disappeared, to make people conscious of how water is used, and to build a memory on the subject.
