Guide

Kastros beach runs for 500 m and is 200 m wide, with clear water and fine sand broken here and there by rocks, and forest covering the land to its north and south. The sea is around 20°C in June and 26°C in August. On the beach there is a tent campsite, a restaurant, a snack kiosk, a tea garden, toilets and drinking water.

The Bahçeköy stream comes down through the woods and crosses the beach into the Black Sea, forming a lagoon at its mouth, and boat trips run up the stream into the forest. The area holds what is described as the only naturally growing black pine forest in Thrace, mixed with Hungarian, sessile and pedunculate oak, oriental and common hornbeam, ash, beech, maple, lime and alder. The rare sea daffodil grows on the sand, with a strong scent when it flowers; the woods shelter roe deer, wild boar, wolves, jackals, martens, foxes, badgers and hares, and the coast is considered suitable habitat for the Mediterranean monk seal.
