The caravanserai stands near the quay at Kuşadası. It was built in 1618 by the grand vizier Öküz Mehmet Paşa.
Around a rectangular courtyard enclosed by thick, high walls runs a two-storey arcaded range. The building is of rubble stone with reused ancient blocks, and it has the look of a small citadel, finished at the top with pointed battlements ending in triangles. Rooms are ranged around the wide courtyard.
It has been restored at various times and is in sound condition. At the north-west and south-east corners two stairs climb to the upper floor from behind. The entrance is on the north, its marble doorway closed by an arch.
The caravanserai is used today as a hotel and tourist establishment.
