The Papart valley at Meydancık in Şavşat was declared a natural site in 2010, and the protection is not uniform: most of the area is first-degree, while a few settlement areas are third-degree.
The provincial directorate gives its reasons together. Human settlement here developed without breaking the natural fabric and in keeping with its surroundings; the valley holds examples of the region's own timber architecture; and the broken topography with its good forest makes what the directorate calls interesting compositions and an unbroken landscape.

- Across Artvin as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from 2.8 °C in January to 21.3 °C in August; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in May, June, July, August and September; rainfall is heaviest in December (87 mm) and lightest in August (29 mm).
