The historic government house in Kilis was begun in 1924, under the district governor Talat Bey, and finished in 1925; its architectural project is known to have been drawn by Hacı Ahmet Bey of Aleppo. It has the architectural character of its period and carries the marks of the National Architectural style, and the symmetry of the site and the facade about the axis of the entrance is typical of that moment.
The building served as the government house from 1925 to 1995 and then as the courthouse from 1995 to 2013. Survey, restitution and restoration projects begun in late 2012 were completed in 2013, and restoration work started immediately afterwards. The building was repaired faithfully to its original state and reopened on 15 May 2015, now as the office of the provincial governor. It stands beside Cumhuriyet Meydanı in the city centre.
