The old station area at İzmit covers 21 donums on İstasyon Caddesi in the Kozluk quarter. Its plan was drawn by the German architect Otto Ritter, and the buildings within it were put up between 1873 and 1910. The station saw the reception ceremonies for Atatürk and for many other statesmen.
The station and warehouse buildings were restored by the provincial governor's office in 2006. Part of the site is now used by the regional conservation board and part as a museum. It is in the city centre.
