Terzibaba, whose real name was Muhammed Vehbi, was a man of the Sufi tradition known by that name — tailor father — because tailoring was his trade. He died in 1848 and was buried in the Kaledibi cemetery, the largest in Erzincan, and the cemetery was renamed after him.
The tomb is reached up four steps, and its entrance has a lead-covered canopy on two columns to keep off the rain. Inside it is plain, with no decorative elements, octagonal in plan under a flat covering, and the door and windows have crossed iron grilles. Of the two cenotaphs inside, the larger belongs to Terzibaba and the other to one of his closest disciples. Know what you are looking at: the tomb was ruined by a fire and rebuilt in reinforced concrete in the 1980s. The cemetery itself is built of cut stone in the Ottoman manner, and both tomb and cemetery are much visited. The tomb can be reached on foot from the city centre, by car, or by the minibuses that pass in front of it.
