Turgut Özal Nature Park lies at Pınarbaşı in the Battalgazi district of Malatya, three kilometres from the city centre, and covers 40.28 hectares.
The spring at Pınarbaşı and the pond formed by damming it are what matter most here. The pond, with the valley around it under pine, cedar and almond trees, makes up the view that draws people to the park, and the ground suits a good range of outdoor activity.
A survey of the vascular plants of the park, collected as herbarium material or photographed and then identified, recorded 108 species across thirty-four families. Of the thirty-two species whose phytogeographic region could be established, twenty-six belong to the Irano-Turanian element, two to the Euro-Siberian, one to the Mediterranean and three to the East Mediterranean; the rest are either found across several regions or their region is not known.
Observation in the park recorded twenty-four species living in the land ecosystem: ten insects, ten birds, two reptiles and two mammals. In the water, five zooplankton, one crab, two fish and two amphibians were recorded, ten species in all. An earlier study of the phytoplankton in the Orduzu pond found 111 species with six varieties, most of them diatoms.
Camping is not permitted in the park, and there is no accommodation of any kind here — no bungalows, wooden houses or guest rooms.
