Vakıflı is three kilometres from Samandağ in Hatay, and it is, according to the Culture Portal, the only village in Türkiye whose population is entirely Armenian. People live here now; its traditions have carried on unbroken for centuries.
The day to come is the feast of the Virgin Mary, kept on the second Sunday of August and held sacred in the Christian world. Beyond a religious festival, it is an occasion that brings together people of different religions and denominations.
