Anamur Museum stands in Yalıevler, the seaside quarter of Anamur, two and a half kilometres from the town centre and 220 kilometres from Mersin.
Anamur has been settled since the ancient city of Anemurium stood here and is rich in archaeological finds. A plot was assigned in 1976 for displaying them, and from 1984 rented buildings were used for the purpose until a museum could be built; the museum building, with a floor area of 260 square metres, was not finished until 1992. Until it came into service the finds were displayed in the museums of Silifke and Alanya.
The building has two floors. The upper holds the administration, a photographic workshop, a conference hall and a library, and the galleries are on the lower floor. Besides material from Anamur, these show finds from the two districts to its east, Bozyazı — ancient Nagidos — and Aydıncık, ancient Kelenderis.
There are 3,470 archaeological objects, among them ornaments, fragments of mosaic and candlesticks, together with 7,105 coins and 124 seals. The ethnographic section displays 849 pieces: kilims, coffee sets, weapons, metalwork, clocks and the like.
