The Atatürk Memorial Museum stands in the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep. To keep Atatürk's memory alive in the city, the metropolitan municipality restored a historic house in the quarter where he was entered on the population register and opened the museum in 2013.
When Mustafa Kemal Atatürk came to Gaziantep on 26 January 1933, he was entered on the population register of the Bey quarter at the proposal of Lütfi Bey, then governor, and Hamdi Bey, the mayor, and given a certificate of honorary citizenship. During the making of the museum the building in the Bey quarter, which belonged to the Konukoğlu family, was given to the metropolitan municipality.
In the museum the room where Atatürk stayed during his visit to Gaziantep has been recreated with its original furnishings, and the personal belongings he used on his visits to the city are shown in the original.
The museum is built in the manner of the traditional Antep house and is made up of two buildings facing a shared courtyard, with 220 square metres of open space and 400 square metres under roof.
