The courtyard at Camiyanı in the Bayır neighbourhood of Marmaris holds three things at once: the Bayır mosque, a coffee house called Çınaraltı, and two separate natural monuments — a cypress and the plane tree that gives the courtyard its character. Shops and houses stand around it and along the street.
The plane was declared a natural monument on 21 February 1995. Its age has been put at around 1,900 years, which the Directorate General of Nature Conservation and National Parks states without saying how the figure was established. The tree is 35 metres tall and 2.80 metres in diameter, and the protected area around it is 0.15 hectares.
What visitors actually do here is sit. The coffee house serves under the branches, and the directorate's own account of the place comes down to a cup of coffee taken beneath a canopy nineteen centuries old. Stated capacity is 50 visitors, and the site is open from 08:00 to 21:00.
From Marmaris bus station, public transport lines 10-13 and 10-5 run to Bayır.
