Boraboy lake is in the Taşova district, sixty-three kilometres from the centre of Amasya and fifteen from Taşova, at 1,050 metres. It is often called a crater lake, but the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is careful here: it is in fact a natural barrier lake, formed when debris coming down from the slopes blocked a small stream.
The water is emerald green, fed both from springs in its bed and by the stream. It is nine hundred metres long, three hundred wide and twenty-five deep, with a steep southern shore, and beech, Scots pine, cedar and chestnut around it.
