The Ezinepazar caravanserai stands at Ezinepazar on the Amasya-Tokat road, 35 kilometres from Amasya. It was built by Melike Mahperi Hatun, wife of the Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubad. Its original inscription is lost, so the year cannot be fixed, but judging by the dates of the other six hans accepted as hers it can be placed between 1238 and 1246.
The entrance door is double-leaved and wooden, with the arch and the section above it in regular cut stone; the han's repair inscription is set here. Higher up, on either side, small windows let the evening sun into the interior. This is a closed-courtyard han on a rectangular plan, and the projections along the side walls are buttresses. Inside, the space is divided lengthways into three corridors, and arches divide each of these parallel corridors into seven bays; every bay in the side corridors has a fireplace and niches, with platforms built for travellers to sit or sleep on. Although it is fundamentally a Seljuk building, the many repairs carried out in the Ottoman period have left it closer to an Ottoman work in its construction technique. It went unused for many years, fell into neglect and was half buried in earth; the General Directorate of Foundations restored it in 2007 and it can now be visited.
