Çatak Canyon is in the Azdavay district of Kastamonu, seven kilometres from the district centre. Getting to the viewpoint is part of the visit: six of those kilometres are driveable and the last one is a walking trail through the forest, ending at a terrace 900 metres up, from where the canyon runs out of sight in both directions.
The canyon itself begins a kilometre or two below the Çatak bridge. It is interrupted at the village of Nalbantoglu and then continues unbroken as far as İnönü.

- The canyon is seven kilometres from the centre of Azdavay in Kastamonu. Six kilometres are by car and the last one on foot through forest, up to the viewing terrace 900 metres above the canyon.

- Across Kastamonu as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from -0.9 °C in January to 20.2 °C in July; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in June, July, August and September; rainfall is heaviest in May (75 mm) and lightest in February (27 mm). Long-term means for 1930-2025 from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).
