Çiğdemli Tuğut village lies twenty kilometres from Divriği in Sivas province, and the buildings in it are registered as protected cultural property, with the village declared an urban conservation area. Evliya Çelebi mentions it: on his journey from Sivas to Diyarbakır he stayed at the han in Tuğut and described it as a prosperous village of 150 households with vineyards and gardens.
What makes the village worth the detour is that it has carried the domestic building tradition of Divriği down to the present at the scale of a large village, which is rare — a settlement whose architecture has few equivalents and which repays both protection and study.
