The Edirne City Museum occupies the Hafızağa Konağı, restored by the municipality and opened on 5 May 2017 after roughly twenty months of work. Ownership of the mansion passed to the municipality in May 2015; the project was funded through the Thrace Development Agency's small-scale infrastructure programme, with the contract signed that August.
It runs over a ground floor and two storeys, and its subject is Edirne economically, socially and culturally rather than as a sequence of objects. The collection reaches from the Chalcolithic to the present.
The range is what makes the visit: the Selimiye Mosque on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the Saray-ı Cedid-i Amire, Mimar Sinan and Mehmed the Conqueror, the hunting of the sultans and the Kırkpınar wrestling, occupation and liberation, the Neolithic and the Thracians, sunflowers and rice, the clarinettist Deli Selim and the Kakava festival, Kapıkule and the Meriç river. It is presented with three-dimensional silicone figures and digital screens.
The museum also works as a teaching space for the city and for students in the region, running education programmes and cultural events.
