The Elmadağ ski centre stands between 1,500 and 1,850 metres above sea level. Its pistes run to seven hundred metres in all and are free of trees.
The ski lodge belonging to the Ankara provincial directorate of youth and sport is open to athletes. The lodges belonging to METU, Hacettepe University, Ankara University, Gazi University and the Ankara Mountaineering, Skiing and Winter Sports Club are used by the members of those bodies. There is also a four-star private hotel and two restaurants in private hands.
The air force holds a ski tow, a snow vehicle and a cafeteria here; two artificial snow machines have been installed recently. The tow is 548 metres long and carries 720 people an hour.
The ski season runs from January to March, and the snow is generally thirty to sixty centimetres deep in that period.
Getting there
The ski centre can be reached by the universities' own vehicles, by municipal bus or by private car.
