The mosque at Göynük that Gazi Süleyman Paşa built in 1335 no longer stands: it collapsed, and the present mosque was built in its place by order of Abdülhamid II. Its architecture is accordingly late, as the provincial directorate notes.
It has a single dome and one minaret. The tomb of Akşemsettin stands in its courtyard.

Türkiye's tourism agency dates the work to the years 1331 to 1335, describes the minaret as having a single balcony and the dome as framed in wood, and records a restoration that ran from 1948 to 1960. The agency counts the mosque among the best preserved early Ottoman buildings in the region.
