Gazilerdağı Nature Park lies within the province of Kocaeli, fifty-five kilometres from İzmit, forty-five from İstanbul and a hundred from Sakarya. It was declared a nature park by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on 25 July 2013, and is notable for its natural vegetation and wildlife.
Maritime pine and black pine make up the dominant vegetation, with oak, juniper, aspen, strawberry tree, mastic, bay, bramble, rockrose, dog rose, fern, buckthorn and various meadow grasses also found here.
