Gölpinar was run as a B-type picnic ground until 2011, when its status was changed to nature park, and its boundary was widened by ministerial decision in August 2020.
It takes its name from the village nearby, and it is run by two operators rather than one: the GB-1 and GB-2 use areas by one company and GB-3 by another. It has capacity for 200 visitors, 50 vehicles and 50 tents.
In a province whose natural cover is steppe, this is the most important wooded ground Şanlıurfa has. The forest regional directorate planted it with red pine, and the trees now average about sixty years of age. The uses the Directorate General of Nature Conservation and National Parks names are day picnics and walking, and it says the landscape, the tree cover and the quiet let visitors spend time inside nature; the park is chosen heavily for day use and picnics in spring and summer above all.
The park is 11.25 kilometres from the centre of Şanlıurfa, and the way in is a gravel road that branches off the Urfa-Diyarbakır highway at its third kilometre. Public transport goes as far as the park gate, but there is none inside the area. Şanlıurfa itself can be reached by road and by air; the park is 35 kilometres from the airport, two kilometres from the Gölpınar quarter and three each from the Kızlar and Yusufkuyu quarters.

- Across Şanlıurfa as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from 5.7 °C in January to 32.1 °C in July; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in April, May and October; rainfall is heaviest in January (85 mm) and lightest in July (2 mm). Long-term means for 1929-2025 from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).
